![]() ![]() I originally hadn’t heard much about it, but after reading the summary I was definitely intrigued. This book was one of the Barnes and Nobles YA Book of the Month picks which is why I picked it up. Set in a richly detailed world inspired by ancient Arabia, We Hunt the Flame is a gripping debut of discovery, conquering fear, and taking identity into your own hands. But an ancient evil stirs as their journey unfolds-and the prize they seek may pose a threat greater than either can imagine. When Zafira embarks on a quest to uncover a lost artifact that can restore magic to her suffering world and stop the Arz, Nasir is sent by the king on a similar mission: retrieve the artifact and kill the Hunter. ![]() War is brewing, and the Arz sweeps closer with each passing day, engulfing the land in shadow. Both are legends in the kingdom of Arawiya-but neither wants to be. If Zafira was exposed as a girl, all of her achievements would be rejected if Nasir displayed his compassion, his father would punish him in the most brutal of ways. Nasir is the Prince of Death, assassinating those foolish enough to defy his autocratic father, the king. ![]() Zafira is the Hunter, disguising herself as a man when she braves the cursed forest of the Arz to feed her people. What I was a little uncomfortable with was when K&K would have sex whilst Denny was asleep next door. They were also really drunk and I know it's not an excuse but I suppose I took it into consideration. When Kellan and Keira first had sex Keira thought her and Denny were over so I didn't find the first encounter too horrifying. She had just moved hundreds of miles away from home to be with him and he left for two months (this wasn't too bad, even though I felt so sorry for her) it's the fact that he then phoned to say it would be two years! She had started a new school, new work place, was living with someone she didn't know in a strange house. dare I say, easier? For me to handle the infidelity was the fact that Denny was so quick to leave Keira. ![]() Denny was so loyal, loving, kind and sweet. ![]() Denny was such a sweetheart, I think that's why us readers struggle with the cheating aspect of the book. ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() When I graduated I decided I wanted to expand it into a full series. ![]() It was originally a project for a web series class at USC taught by The Big Bang Theory’s Dave Goetsch.
